NIFS Annual Conference

NIFS is an organization dedicated to the professional development of agricultural safety and health professionals, providing national and international leadership in preventing agricultural injuries and illnesses to the agricultural community. NIFS provides opportunities for sharing information about research and intervention programs, improving professional skills and knowledge, networking and other supportive activities.

The long-range objectives of NIFS and the annual conference are to play an active role in contributing to the reduction of agricultural injuries. This is accomplished through: a) providing professional development of agricultural safety and health professionals; and b) national and international leadership in agricultural safety and health. The annual conference is the main means of working towards these goals.

The specific objectives of the annual conference are to: a) exchange and disseminate information on agricultural injury and health prevention research and activities; b) provide opportunities for professional development through an environment conducive to networking, collaboration, and linkage-building; and c) exhibit leadership in identifying and addressing current agricultural safety and health issues.

Accommodations


The conference will be held in Lancaster County, the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country. Lancaster is home to the oldest Amish settlement in the United States and has one of the largest Anabaptist populations in the country.

It is a region rich with farming heritage and is designated as having some of the finest soil for farming.It is close to Philadelphia and its western suburbs, the Baltimore/Washington region, and Harrisburg, the capitol of Pennsylvania. The area is rich in history, outdoor activities, shopping, theater, museums, and great food and wine.

The theme "Sowing the Wind with Safety and Health"adapted from a farm safety play conceived and written by Barry Kornhauser, a national award-winning playwright.

One technical tour will be to Cherry Crest, an agritourism site featured in Sports Illustrated for Children, People, and on Good Morning America and the Discovery Channel. The other tour will be to working Anabaptist farms and workshops.Safety issues will be covered on both tours.

The Eden Resort Inn and Conference Center is repeatedly voted Lancaster's Favorite Hotel. Facilities include a fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, a playground, and two restaurants.
